We’ve all been there. You are trying to impress a pretty girl. She knows you are a creative type. You write. Paint. Draw. Create. And it shows. And you’ve been lying to yourself for far too long…..thinking, I’m going to be famous. People love me. And sooner or later, where it matters most, it’s going to show.

And then, the realization that you’ve wasted the last 6 months of your life on finger painting family portraits, when you could have been playing kickball with the other kids. And you’ve made nothing. At first, it didn’t matter. But now it does. You try to keep a brave face…..and keep the faith, because you know in your bones you’re doing the work the world wants you to do.

And then it happens. The lens of life. It sneaks up behind you and says – everyone is watching.

You can keep up the charade, or you can come clean. Cry if you must. It will make you better. And stronger. And want it so much more.

Every artist has this moment. This happened to me when my Mother helped me do my tax return in 2003.

The shame – it stings and has the taste of the type of truth you’ve hid from too many, for far too long. This too shall pass. And the good news is, the good ones, the warriors….we keep crying….and creating, too. 🙂

I am an author, artist and entrepreneur. My 2 passions are writing about, and teaching Marketing and Meditation. I like to think I’m a lot like Eckhart Tolle, if only he was taller, and a much better tennis player. (it turns out in person, he’s super short, has a terrible backhand and wears this weird scottish hat thingy that makes it really difficult to concentrate while serving) Plus he refuses to keep score and says ” it’s always NOW” when you ask who is up. Enough about me. We barely know each other. Stop staring. You’re making me nervous.
