Hunting for Killer Keywords
I rarely do product style reviews on this site, and to be perfectly honest with you, I don’t really enjoy doing them in other niches either. And I’m not going to start here….but I will tell you that if you are looking for a killer quick keyword research tool that has a unique place in the pantheon of stuff that is currently on the market ( i.e. – wordtracker, KD, et al) I REALLY believe that Keyword Country is a great place to start.
The simple truth is that I’ve been talking about KC for at least a year on here occasionally, as they were nice enough to let me in on the Beta test way back when when KC 5 was released. You could make an argument that were Keyword Country truly shined in the past is for a monetization metric that has already jumped the shark – adsense and contextual ad monetization.
Keyword Country 5 is Here and it’s Amazing
Subtle but SMART Differences
And you would be right – there is NOTHING on the market that gives you the kind of pushbutton elegant answer on how much you should REALLY make per click if you are publishing sites with contextual ads.( and NO, it’s NOT going to be the high CPC that many of the other tools promise…KC factors in the average of ALL the top advertisers and gives you a FAR more realistic number they call ACPC, or average cost per click that often is only a FRACTION of the bloated price you "see" for top bids)
Where I believe Keyword Country TRULY shines is how quickly they generate HUGE lists of the TOP keywords that exist for ALL markets at once. You simply tell KC you want a list of ALL the top queried terms, it will give you the number of google searches, the number of yahoo searches, the amount of PAID clicks per month, the competition metrics and OH so much more in one fell swoop.
( see the image above for a WIDE disparate list of keywords generated across MANY niches with one simple query – all having volume in the multiple millions per month)
Think it’s hard to come up with ideas to break down and segment for obscure affiliate marketing opportunties with this sort of FAST and easy intelligence at your fingertips? Think again..;-) I love it – it’s a GREAT and fun way of literally, getting a birds eye view of the ENTIRE search landscape at once – and it easily and elegantly identifies great opportunities that you don’t even need to be a deep thinker to identify with ease. ( which is good – because I’m certainly not)
Downside to KC? It’s more expensive than many other tools – coming pricier than either Wordtracker or KD. But it REALLY does a whole hell of a lot more – or at least differently anyway. KD won’t do real granular level keyword research, you will need to drill down elsewhere.
KC5 *might* be the very best affiliate marketing research tool that NO ONE hs heard of
But, with Google releasing their monthly search numbers now, as of this summer, I truly believe tools like KCountry are FAR more important than the wordtrackers of the world – as the only real spread between what’s FREELY available, and what requires a premium to get access to is SPEED and ease of identifying opportunity – and once you have this sort of info, you can use the FREE tools to drill down to the cacaphony of long tailed ways to monetize the broader niche.
Amping it UP a Notch
Anyway – if you are looking for a GREAT and elegant way to take your keyword research to the very next level in rapid fire turn around time, and TRULY get a competitve advantage on many who have their heads buried in Wordtracker and it’s kissing cousins, this is the best way I know of to do it and fast!

Ian, do you know about a new Wordtracker feature (as of Sept. 30, 2009) that finds high-taffic/low-competition keywords? I wasn’t really impressed with Wordtracker until I read about this new feature, and was wondering if you think it’s significant and/or valuable.

Thanks, Blair – I’ll check it out. (although lots of tools do this….I’m not sure the specifics of what this particular nuance is – but I’ll look!) By the way – sorry that you’re comments keep being “moderated” – they should post automatically once you have one approved comment, and for some odd reason EVERYONE who comments is getting filtered for approval…pain in the ass..:-)
