How to Use Scribd to Do Market Research Without Lifting A Finger

In an earlier post a few days ago, I pointed out some of the surprising benefits I’ve found by posting lots of my compiled content on Scribd – and some of the ancillary benefits and insight this has provided. And just because I’m a little bit slow to the jump, as I was hunting around Scribd this morning looking at some of my stuff, and taking some notes on the exact keywords and long tail phrases people were using specifically, to arrive at my docs – I had a caffeine induced epiphany that is well worth noting.

If – I could see EXACTLY what people were typing in to find MY stuff, I certainly could use the same exact logic to find exactly what they were using to find my competitions stuff too, right?

A Simple Revelation….

And low and behold, like I find is often the case when I have an epiphany on a Tuesday morning after sleeping on the couch all night and rolling off at 10am to check my stats before brushing my teeth, I was in fact, correct.

Benefits?

What does this mean exactly? Well – if you are doing a ton of keyword research using paid tools ( which I do and recommend) you know the value – and often WILD vacillations in what the tools report, and what you are getting back in real time, real life intelligence. Scribd, essentially is going to allow you to pick ANY document, in any niche, and see, based on THEIR tracking metrics, what keywords, misspellings, phrases and otherwise are driving traffic to your competitions docs.

This is tantamount, in my view, to having access to your competitions Google analytics account, and jotting down EXACTLY where and how traffic is arriving on their site or blog.

Really valuable, really easy, and incredibly actionable intelligence you can use, abuse and essentially lift right off the page for your own campaigns. I would add more to this, but as I said, I haven’t brushed my teeth yet, and that coffee taste combined with morning breath is getting distracting.
